Er…I’m still here!

It's been a very long time since I've updated this blog.  So much has happened, I've met so many wonderful people and had such an amazing journey to where we are now.  The boys are almost two years old and I am still in remission.

It's hard living with the idea that you've had cancer.  It never leaves your mind. Any time I don't feel 100%, have a cold or bug from the kids I immediately think "It's coming back!".  I still visit the Day Clinic (next to Ward 16) every two weeks where my bloods are checked and I still have a bone marrow sample taken (about every six-eight weeks).  My bone marrow still goes for testing to London where they check it at a genetic level for the cause of my leukaemia.  They are checking to see if the genetic abnormality that caused my cancer has reappear or not…so far my results have been negative – which is good.

Sometimes I'm so tired I could just drop where I am.  One of my doctors told me that often people on my medication sleep 14 hours a day…I'd love to make 8 hours!  You know, I've been through my chemo and I've recovered really well, but sometimes those around me forget I'm tired, that I still have low blood counts because my medication suppresses them, that I'm knackered (but equally I do sometimes need a kick up the bum to get busy and not feel sorry for myself!). It's hard work…

Another Date for your Diary!

Charlie's old band are reforming to play a gig at The Lemon Tree on 1st September 2007 to raise money for Leukaemia Research. The info from their press pack for the gig (very grand LOL!) says this:

The Dreaming and Tinderbox will reform for a one off fundraiser for Leukaemia Research on Saturday, September 1st, 2007 at The Lemon Tree. The show will feature all the foot-stomping fun of yester-year and some very special guests.

The gig is a fundraiser for Leukaemia Research, which is a topic close to the heart of the band since singer Charlie Love's wife, Vanessa, has recently recovered from the disease.

The Dreaming, who changed their name to Tinderbox after a legal battle with EMI in 1995, have played with (amongst others) RunRig, Travis, Texas, The Waterboys, Big Country and Van Morrison.

During a five year career between 1992 and 1997 the band played their own slot at the Scottish Fleadh, appeared as headliners at Glasgow Read More

Life is amazing!

Hi, long time – no updates! What can I say…the pressures of being a full-time Mum, iPhone/Facebook addict have taken their toll and I haven’t updated here for a long time (again).  Since I’m hoping to do a few more updates, Charlie has just updated the web site for me! What do you think of the new colour scheme?

Just so that things don’t get too stale here, I’ve added a Facebook widget which will update my photos and status from Facebook. I update this several times a day via my iPhone (which is ace!!!).  Charlie remarks that my housework productivity has decreased since I got it and I think he’s right :-P.

Please take some time to sponsor me as a survivour for the relay for life at Peterhead on July 25th.  Visit my sponsorship page at http://www.donatetomyrelay.org/vanessalove

Take Care

Zippppp Slidddeeeee

I’m going to be doing a 750 foot zip slide in aid of the Antony Nolan Trust.  If you like your fundraising served with a shot of pure adrenaline, then the zip slide is for you, so they say! If you want join me then more details are here.  What have I let myself in for! You can give to my JustGiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/vanessa-love.

And, I MUST mention that Megan, my youngest daughter, will be walking Lochnagar (with her Dad!) to raise money for Cancer Research UK.  This is entirely Megan’s idea and she wanted to do something challenging to make a difference and to kind of say thanks for me being so well.  Megan has a huge personality and I was really proud of her when she came up with this idea.  She is already in training!  Her justgiving page is http://www.justgiving.com/megan-love
